38-Year-Old Patient Successfully Undergoes Complex Brain Aneurysm and AVM Surgery at Medicover Hospitals

Bengaluru: In a complex neurosurgical procedure, Medicover Hospitals, Hoodi, Bengaluru, successfully performed a right fronto-temporo-parietal (FTP) craniotomy on a 38-year-old man from Hassan for the surgical treatment of a brain aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation (AVM).

The patient had been diagnosed with a right frontal Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) bifurcation aneurysm and a Spetzler-Martin Grade II AVM in the right frontal region. Considering the complexity and location of the vascular abnormalities, the patient underwent a right fronto-temporo-parietal craniotomy. During the procedure, the MCA bifurcation aneurysm was successfully clipped, and the AVM was completely excised.

The surgery was performed under the leadership of Dr. Anand V.K., Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon, with Dr. Yashwanth Sandeep, Consultant Neurosurgeon, as part of the treating team.

Complex Condition Requiring Specialised Neurosurgical Care

Speaking about the case, Dr. Anand V.K. said, “Cerebral aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations are complex neurological conditions that require timely diagnosis and specialised treatment. While some vascular malformations may have a familial or genetic predisposition, many cases occur sporadically. Depending on their location and characteristics, patients may present with symptoms such as headaches, seizures, visual disturbances, hearing-related symptoms or other neurological problems.”

“In this patient, the surgery was technically challenging and took approximately six hours. The aneurysm was successfully clipped, and the AVM was completely removed. The patient recovered well following the procedure and is currently doing fine,” he added.

Patient Returns Home Within Six Days

Recalling his experience, Mr. Santosh, the patient, said, “I initially developed headaches and later began experiencing significant discomfort. I consulted several hospitals, but I did not get the expected relief. When we came to Medicover Hospitals, Dr. Anand and Dr. Yashwanth explained my condition and the available treatment options in detail. I underwent the surgery and was able to return home within just six days. I am extremely happy with my recovery and grateful to the doctors and the entire team.”

Advanced Neurosurgical Expertise

The successful management of this complex case highlights the importance of comprehensive and specialised neurosurgical care in treating challenging cerebrovascular conditions.

The case also demonstrates the expertise of the neurosurgical team at Medicover Hospitals, Hoodi, in managing complex brain and vascular conditions through advanced surgical techniques and multidisciplinary care.

The hospital team emphasised the importance of seeking timely medical evaluation for persistent headaches, seizures, visual changes or other unexplained neurological symptoms. Early diagnosis of cerebral vascular abnormalities can help doctors determine the appropriate treatment approach and may help prevent potentially serious complications.
