Coastal Karnataka continues to track an unusually erratic monsoon this season, with farmers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi reporting delays in paddy transplantation due to inconsistent rainfall. Fishing communities in Mangaluru and Malpe have also flagged reduced catches, which they link to weaker nutrient upwelling in calmer-than-usual coastal waters.
Local agricultural officials say they are monitoring the situation closely, with contingency plans under discussion should the rainfall shortfall persist into the peak growing weeks ahead.
