The Reserve Bank of India has projected GDP growth of 6.9 percent for the current fiscal year, even as it flagged upside risks to inflation stemming from elevated energy prices linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The projection came alongside the central bank’s decision to hold the repo rate steady at 5.25 percent.
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the fundamentals of the Indian economy remain on a stronger footing than in previous periods of global stress, citing government measures aimed at protecting supply chains and supporting exports.
