Karnataka’s semiconductor policy, introduced in 2010 as the first of its kind in India, continues to shape the state’s standing as a hub for chip design and research. The state is now home to more than 100 fabless chip design firms and over 400 multinational R&D centres, according to industry figures.
Recent investment announcements, including a ₹3,425 crore commitment from Zoho-backed Silectric Semiconductor and a potential $2 billion R&D facility from Applied Materials in Bengaluru, suggest the policy’s early bet on semiconductors is continuing to attract fresh capital more than a decade later.
