Gold prices have retreated roughly 26 percent from January’s record high of $5,598 per ounce, with spot gold recently trading near $4,140, according to market data. A stronger US dollar has been cited as the primary driver behind the pullback, reducing the relative appeal of non-yielding safe-haven assets like gold.
Despite the retreat from record levels, gold remains a closely watched barometer of investor sentiment, with central banks — including those of India, China, and Turkey — continuing to steadily build their reserves as a hedge against currency and inflation risk.
