Bengaluru: In a major initiative to strengthen emergency healthcare services, Medicover Hospitals, in collaboration with South Western Railway, has launched a 24×7 Free Ambulance Service at Sir M. Vishveswarayya Railway Terminal (SMVT), Bengaluru. The service will be available free of cost for railway passengers, South Western Railway employees, and their families, ensuring immediate medical assistance during emergencies.
Earlier, providing emergency ambulance services at SMVT Railway Terminal was a significant challenge. Even after an emergency call was made, ambulances often could not reach the railway station on time due to heavy traffic congestion across the city. As a result, patients’ conditions frequently became critical before they could be transported to a hospital. Recognizing this challenge, Medicover Hospitals has permanently stationed a dedicated ambulance at the railway terminal, enabling immediate emergency response, prompt primary medical care, and rapid transfer to the hospital. The initiative is expected to save precious time and help save many lives.
Under normal circumstances, an ambulance travelling from different parts of Bengaluru could take up to one to one-and-a-half hours to reach the railway station, depending on traffic conditions. With a dedicated ambulance stationed at SMVT and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, emergency medical assistance can now be provided without delay. The service will play a crucial role in life-threatening situations such as road accidents, heart attacks, strokes, trauma, and other medical emergencies.
The specially equipped Medicover ambulance is fitted with advanced life-saving medical equipment, oxygen support systems, emergency care devices, and a comprehensive Primary Medical Kit. It is staffed round the clock by an experienced emergency nurse and a trained ambulance driver, ensuring that patients receive immediate stabilization and primary medical care even before reaching the hospital.

The ambulance service was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Siddareddy, Regional Director, Medicover Hospitals, Dr. S. Sobha Jasmine, Principal Chief Medical Director, South Western Railway, Dr. Vinod Rathod, Additional Chief Medical Director, South Western Railway, along with senior officials from the Railway Department and representatives of Medicover Hospitals.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Siddareddy, Regional Director, Medicover Hospitals, said, “Medicover Hospitals is committed to making quality healthcare accessible to everyone. In medical emergencies, every minute is critical. Thousands of passengers use SMVT Railway Terminal every day, and we wanted to ensure that they, along with South Western Railway employees and their families, receive immediate medical assistance without delay. By stationing a dedicated ambulance at the railway station itself, we can significantly reduce response time and improve the chances of saving lives. Our ambulance is equipped with advanced life-saving medical equipment, a comprehensive primary medical kit, and is staffed by an experienced emergency nurse and a trained driver who can provide immediate care before the patient reaches the hospital. This initiative reflects Medicover Hospitals’ commitment to community healthcare and our mission to deliver timely, accessible, and high-quality emergency medical services. We remain committed to expanding such public welfare initiatives in the future.”
The launch of the 24×7 Free Ambulance Service marks a significant milestone in the public healthcare partnership between South Western Railway and Medicover Hospitals. The initiative is expected to enhance passenger safety, strengthen emergency medical response, and provide timely life-saving care for thousands of passengers and railway employees using one of Bengaluru’s busiest railway terminals.
